The history of Bingo can be traced back to 1530 in Italy, when it was played every Saturday and referred to as "Lo Giuoco del Lotto D'Italia." In the late 1770s, the game was brought to France, where it was called “Le Lotto” and played by wealthy Frenchmen.
When the game reached North America 1929, it was referred to as “beano” and was first played at a carnival in Atlanta, Georgia. Shortly thereafter, Edwin S. Lowe, a New York toy salesman, renamed it “Bingo” after overhearing someone say “bingo” accidentally. Since then, Bingo has become a household name in North America, with hundreds of locations to play in Canada alone!
